CYPRESS - Officials with the Lone Star College System (LSC) broke ground on the new LSC-CyFair instructional building.

The 75,000-sf facility—located between the center for academic and student affairs buildings—will house 16 classrooms, three multi-purpose classrooms, four computer classrooms, two prototype computer classrooms and one open computer lab.

An additional 750 parking spaces will be created for students and staff.

The building will provide classroom space for the campus’s growing population, officials said.

Student enrollment reached 20,510 in fall 2015 and will surpass 25,000 over the next few years, LSC Chancellor Steven Head noted during the ceremony.

The building will open for student enrollment and registration in spring 2017.

In addition to classroom space, one-third of the building will be dedicated to student life and will include office suites, study space and meeting rooms.

A landscaped outdoor space, known as a learning garden, will provide an exterior gathering space for students.
