HOUSTON – Daikin Industries Ltd. plans to employ more workers than originally expected at its new $417 million campus in the Houston area.

The manufacturer of heating, cooling and refrigerant products told Realty News Report that once the 3 million– to 4 million–sf campus is completed, it will eventually employ up to 5,000 people.

The company had previously expected to employ 4,000 at the new campus.

The company will consolidate its Goodman engineering, logistics, procurement, manufacturing and marketing operations from Texas and Tennessee at the new campus.

Additionally, Daikin added that the campus is expected to be completed at the end of 2016.

Located on a 90-acre parcel near US 290, three miles west of SH 99, the new campus will include one of the largest and most technologically advanced HVAC manufacturing facilities in the country.

It will feature a 1.8 million-sf distribution center, 1.7 million sf of manufacturing space and more that 400,000 sf of lab and office space.

Earlier this year, the Greater Houston Partnership received a gold award in Business Facilities’ 2015 Economic Development Deal of the Year competition for the campus.

At the time, the publication predicted that the new campus would generate $3.9 billion in annual economic impact for the Houston region, creating 4,600 direct jobs and more than 11,000 indirect or induced jobs.
