​​HOUSTON – Japan-based Daikin Industries has upped the number of people it plans to have at its four million-sf factory from 4,000 to 5,000.

The facility, near SH 290 on the city’s northwest side, will be the world’s largest tilt-wall building. It will have a 1.8 million-sf distribution center, 1.7 million sf of manufacturing space, a 196,500-sf-mezzanine, 231,598 sf of lab space, and 202,600 sf of office space.

Daikin, the world’s largest manufacturer of heating and cooling equipment and refrigerant products, is investing nearly half a billion dollars in the project, which will consolidate operations from four existing plants—twoin Tennessee and two in Texas.

Completion is slated for the end of this year or early next year.
