HOUSTON – A stretch of South Main near the University of Texas’ planned expansion south of the Texas Medical Center is poised to get another educational institution.

Saint Nicholas School plans to build a campus that anchors 47 acres along South Main between Hiram Clarke and South Post Oak.

Opening is set for fall 2018.

Taeken Ltd., a family limited partnership, purchased the land, according to M Kidd Properties, which represented the school. The site is adjacent to the Menninger Clinic, which opened a 50-acre campus in 2012.

The school, which serves infants through eighth grade, will relocate from 1920 N. Braeswood, its home near the Texas Medical Center since 1995. It offers a Montessori program with Latin, Spanish and French studies through second grade, and a classical curriculum through middle school.

The new campus will consist of a 38,000-sf building, including a chapel that will be used for music training.

The design includes classrooms with access to outdoor courtyards, language labs, art studios, a music room, two science labs, a special purpose room and a gym.

Current enrollment of 150 is expected to grow to 200 next year. The new campus will be built to accommodate 375 students.

The school will be developed on 20 acres and a portion will be set aside for detention. The remainder is available for development and it will likely be residential.

There will be sports fields and other outdoor amenities.

The additional land provides an opportunity for complementary developments.

The land is less than five miles from the university’s campus near South Main at Greenbriar. The school sits on a little more than an acre next to vacant land with frontage on Main.
