HOUSTON – Houston Baptist University has demolished some dilapidated retail on the Southwest Fwy. to develop The Pillars at HBU—a 30,000-sf retail development that will be complete in 2017.
Three building permits approved by the City of Houston indicate the development will cost roughly $3.9 million.
The development will be built on a 30-acre tract of university-owned land from 7406 Fondren Rd. to 7731 Southwest Fwy.
Phase one of the retail development currently underway will include two 10,000-sf buildings and wrap up in June.
Phase two, which contains one 11,000-sf building, will deliver in January.
This retail development is a kick starter for the university’s long-term expansion goals, Sandra Mooney, vice president of finance at HBU said, which will fill up the remaining space on the 30-acre plot.
