First look! Midland’s $42M convention center
MIDLAND - Midland City Council members approved Option 2 for a new $42.3 million convention center.
The project will be funded through the hotel/motel tax revenue fund.
State law says that money can only be spent on promoting tourism and the convention and hotel industry.
The 74,000-sf convention center facility design was selected from three preliminary designs.
The approved design includes removing the chamber of commerce facility and building a convention center with a 20,000-sf exhibit hall, a 56,000-sf ballroom and 3,000 sf of meeting rooms.
City officials expect to hire a construction-manager-at-risk to provide a more accurate cost estimate by June.
