McALLEN – South Texas College is nearing the construction phase of expansion and renovations throughout its five Rio Grande Valley campuses as part of the 2013 bond issue.
The $159 million bond was divided between 26 construction projects that include new buildings and renovations to support the college’s growing number of students.
The bulk of the work will take place in McAllen with six projects slated for the Pecan Campus, including new academic buildings.
The Mid-Valley campus in Weslaco is also slated for six projects that include the construction of a new health professions and science building and expansion of the Workforce Training Center.
And the Starr County Campus in Rio Grande City will undergo seven major changes, including the construction of a new library.
The vast majority of the projects are scheduled to be completed before fall 2017.
The next step is for the STC board of trustees to receive the final guaranteed maximum price approvals, which will be presented starting in April. This will allow the contractor to start construction and hire subcontractors.
