EDINBURG – Construction and related building activities totaled more than $36 million for January 2016, almost five times higher than the same month in 2015, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation has announced.
The 9,400-seat soccer stadium, being built on a 37-acre site to be home to the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros professional soccer team, came in as the most valuable project — with a building permit valued at $16.8 million according to the city’s Code Enforcement Department.
The second-most significant construction project approved for a building permit in January 2016 was a 168-unit multifamily housing complex, worth more than $9.7 million, located at 4604 South Sugar Rd.
The apartments will be next to the Edinburg Regional Medical Center/Edinburg Children’s Hospital.
