SAN ANTONIO – Local developers’ plans for a 24-story Hilton-branded hotel along the River Walk could bring new life to a couple of long-vacant buildings, as well as downtown itself.

The Fishmarket and MIC buildings along E Commerce St. may have been vacant for the past 30 years, but a proposed $60 million hotel development is expected to bring some activity back to this pair of properties located in the geographic epicenter of San Antonio.
The site for the proposed hotel spans just 6,500 sf. So the designs include plans to go up. Way up.
Spearheaded by Crockett Urban Ventures Partner Chris Hill and Merritt Development Group, the development would transform the long-empty properties into a 24-story boutique Hilton-branded hotel with about 1,200 sf of retail space on the ground floor.
Hill purchased the two buildings—located at 151 and 155 E. Commerce streets, respectively—in 2013 for a reported $2.15 million.
