LONGVIEW - Food trucks are officially coming to Longview.

City Council members unanimously amended city ordinances to allow mobile food units to operate in the city starting March 1.

According to Laura Hill, Director of Community Service, food trucks are a good way to bring in new business.

"We want Longview to embrace this new industry," Hill said.

Hank Guichelaar, who served on the Mobile Food Truck Task Force and operates a mobile food business, said mobile food vending gives niche and gourmet food preparers the chance to start their business without the overhead costs of opening a restaurant.

"Brick-and-mortar restaurants usually have a standard menu or style," he said. "With a food truck, you can do just lobster rolls, or a gourmet niche."
