SAN ANTONIO - Despite a limited availability of nonstop flights and growing concerns about the Alamo City’s overall air connectivity, San Antonio International Airport did experience a slight increase in its passenger count in 2015.

The total number of passengers who flew into or out of San Antonio International grew 1.6 percent last year to 8.5 million. Nearly 8 million of those passengers were aboard domestic flights.

The domestic passenger count at San Antonio International increased 1.2 percent in 2015.

Local leaders have made it a priority to grow international visitation, and San Antonio International did attract more than 511,000 international passengers in 2015. That represents a 10.1 percent increase over the previous-year total.

Airport officials said the overall number of passengers who flew into or out of San Antonio International in December 2015 eclipsed the 726,000 mark. That is less than a 1 percent increase over the December 2014 total.
