Waco: what a ‘bowl,’ not super but college
WACO – Demolition is underway on Floyd Casey Stadium, said
Brian Nicholson, Baylor University Vice President for operations and facilities
management.
The stadium should be down by June or July 2016.
The Baylor football team played in the stadium for 64
seasons from 1950 to 2013.
As of November 2015, a land-swap proposal between the city
and Baylor is on track for approval.
The university would give the city a
cleared Floyd Casey Stadium site in exchange for a five-acre property at the
corner of I-35 and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. adjacent to McLane Stadium.
Baylor has a proposal to work with Baylor Scott & White
to build an exercise science and sports medicine center at the I-35 site.
City officials have said they will recommend a
master plan for the redevelopment of the Floyd Casey site. This could include
residential, office and commercial development, as well as recreational and sports
uses.
