AUSTIN - Austin is known as leader in the tech and creative industries—but what about on the international air travel scene?

With the arrival of a British Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Austin is the first North American city to launch regular scheduled service of the jet, according to city officials.

The 787-9 is a roomier, stretch version of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which the airliner had been using on the route.

The British Airways flight is scheduled to arrive daily at 4:15 p.m. from London and depart at 6:20 p.m.

British Airways began flying direct from Austin to London since 2014.

When the route was announced, it was framed as a way to connect European and Texas companies—with an annual local economic impact of up to $74 million.
