San Antonio: Rising Barn cozy in micro-unit developments
SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio-based startup Rising Barn wants
potential homeowners to think small. Really small.
The fledgling company is putting its own spin on custom
home building by combing two hot-topic trends — do-it-yourself and micro units —
to add a unique type of single-family housing to San Antonio’s residential
market.
Similar to any type of custom home building, a buyer will
secure their own homesite and go through a catalogue of options for the type of
home they want to build on said site.
Rather than the three-bedroom, two-bathroom floor plans with
a den and two-car garage, Rising Barn’s floorplans range between 200 to 800 sf.
For turnkey developments, which include the cost of materials and labor, unit
pricing ranges between $120 per sf to $200 per sf, dependent upon the quality of
finishes a buyer chooses.
But if that buyer wants to build their house
with their own two hands, Rising Barn sells them a homebuilding kit, so to
speak, and the homeowner can keep costs between $90 to $105 per sf.
