Gaines: Texas economy about to lose some sizzleGaines: Texas economy about to lose some sizzlehttps://www.recenter.tamu.edu/news/newstalk-texas/?Item=117852016-01-19T06:00:00Z2016-01-19T20:00:00Z

FORT WORTH – The Texas economy has been booming the past few years, but Real Estate Center Chief Economist Dr. Jim Gaines told the Dallas Morning News to expect it to slow down in 2016.

A few of Gaines' projections for 2016:

  • Significantly slower economic and job growth could put the brakes on soaring home prices. On the other hand, North Texas' low housing inventory could continue supporting price gains.
  • Home sales will slow down, although he said this hasn't turned up in the data yet.
  • Texas gross domestic product will grow by less than 1 percent, while home price gains could halve.

What else is in store for Texas this year? To find out, read "2016 Economic and Housing Outlook: Q&A with James Gaines," and listen to Real Estate Red Zone episodes 278, 279 and 280.
