AMARILLO, CANYON - Brisk home sales in and across Amarillo and Canyon brought the local market its best first quarter since 2006.

Separate analyses of Amarillo Association of Realtors Multiple Listing Service data showed single-family home sales up 12.5 percent to 14.7 percent, when compared with results from first quarter 2014.

“It was the best first quarter since 2006, and that was the high-water mark in the MLS in its (Amarillo) history,” Coldwell Banker First Equity Realtors broker Randy Jeffers said.

The market registered more than 3,100 total sales in 2014.

“The old joke is, ‘Everything was up but interest rates,’” said Greg Glenn, a broker with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices/Anderson Properties.

Jeffers pegged the median sales price at $140,000, an increase of nearly 1.5 percent from first quarter 2014.

The average single-family home price rose 7.8 percent to almost $170,600, Jeffers said.

Sales of homes in higher price ranges — a previously sluggish segment — also were on the rise, Glenn said.

Homes between $100,000 and $250,000 remain the most popular for most buyers, said Kent Meyer, president of Amarillo Association of Realtors and a Coldwell Banker agent.
