Beaumont flat-out runs to Folsom hike and bike trail
BEAUMONT – When the new Folsom hike and bike trail from Major Dr. to Dowlen Rd. opens, it will be, uh, swale.
It’s just in time for New Year’s resolutions to exercise and to enjoy a brisk walk, a soft jog or a flat-out run along the 1.4 mile-long concrete trail.
The contractor still has to carve a shallow ditch, called a swale, along its length for proper runoff in a rain.
The trail was built with a grant
from the Federal Transportation Enhancement Program for $661,120 with
the city’s 20 percent match of $165,280, for a total of $826,400.
The concrete trail is ten feet wide. The city built a 22-space parking lot that also is accessible to people with disabilities.
Once completed, the Folsom hike and bike trail will be the city’s second formal path designed specifically for people’s use, safe from traffic.
City public works director Joe Majdalani said the new trail should be complete by late January.
