HOUSTON - Houston has the most top-selling master-planned communities in the country, even though several communities fell off the list in 2015.

RCLCO released its annual survey of the top 20 best-selling master-planned communities in the country. The national real estate consulting company compiled its top communities list based on the number of home sales reported in 2015.

Five Houston communities made the list in 2015, down from eight communities in 2014.

Three communities — The Woodlands (ranked No. 11 in 2014), Cinco Ranch (ranked No. 12) and Cross Creek Ranch (ranked No. 19) — fell off RCLCO’s top-selling list in 2015.

The Woodlands dropped out of the RCLCO’s top-20 list for the first time since the research firm began publishing its rankings in 1994.

Home sales fell or remained stagnant in most Houston communities that made RCLCO’s list in 2015 — except for Canyon Lakes West, which posted a 7 percent increase in home sales year over year.

Home sales slowed the most in Houston's move-up and luxury home segments, primarily due to the discretionary nature of these purchases and a decline in corporate relocations. However, there is pent-up demand for lower-priced homes, which helped other Houston communities maintain strong sales in 2015.

In addition, the majority of Houston’s master-planned communities — except for Wildwood at Northpointe and Canyon Lakes West — saw its ranking fall on RCLCO’s top-selling list in 2015. RCLCO attributed the drop in Houston communities to several factors, including the oil slump.
