DALLAS - After a long drought of activity, Dallas’ Lake Highlands Town Center development is ramping up with new development.

Argyle Residential recently disclosed plans to build four-story, 257-unit apartment project on the west side of White Rock Creek near Skillman St. and Walnut Hill Lane.

Now plans are in the works for a five-building, almost 60,000-sf shopping center that would be added to the 70-acre development.

Landowner Cypress Real Estate Advisors and developer Trammell Crow Co. have been working on the retail portion of the project.

New development plans for the eight-acre retail center show a 30,000-sf main building with four smaller buildings ranging from new 5,000 sf to almost 10,000 sf each.

Lake Highlands Town Center was started in 2007 but has been slow to develop.

A 200-unit apartment block opened last year in the project and has so far been the only completed development.

More than $86 million was spent just to create the infrastructure for the big project — including $13 million from the public sector and more than $10 million from DART to build a new light rail station.
