GREENVILLE, HUNT COUNTY - Local shoppers may be able to buy both hobby and crafts and sports-related Christmas gifts in Greenville next year.

Officials with the City of Greenville, Hunt County and the Greenville Independent School District announced the start of the construction of not only the Greenville Hobby Lobby, but also an Academy Sports and Outdoors store.

Both stores are to be built next to Lowe’s in the Kari-Beth Crossing shopping center near the intersection of I-30 and Wesley St.
Board of Development President/CEO Greg Sims said the project has been in the works for some time, and it but the latest in a series of developments which trace back before Sims came to Greenville four years ago.

The Hobby Lobby store is expected to cover approximately 55,000 sf, with Academy covering almost 64,000 sf.

“Overall, this will mean close to $20 million in infrastructure and real estate improvements,” Sims said. “This whole deal is going to create another 236 jobs.”

Greenville Board of Development Chairman Mike Kubacak said it is evidence that more large retailers are beginning to recognize the economic potential Greenville offers.

“Greenville is rapidly developing into the retail capital of Northeast Texas,” he said.
