SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio City Council sealed a deal with General
Motors Financial Co. for economic incentives to build a 100,000-sf customer service
center in Westover Hills. The project involves $24.5 million capital investment that
includes building a facility slated to hold about 490 new employees. GM Financial’s call center is set to operate under the
trademark AmeriCredit and offer phone support for subprime auto loans. The
company already operates a credit center located near the intersection of
Northwest 410 Loop and I-10 in the Balcones Heights area. GM Financial Co. requested a tax abatement agreement worth
$339,594 which would cover 50 percent of the increased tax value of the land
improvements at the new project site. In exchange, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's office awarded the
firm $2.5 million through the Texas Enterprise Fund, an economic incentive tool
used to entice new companies at the discretion of the governor's office.
All the potential jobs must pay at least $11.66
per hour, in accordance with the city's tax abatement rules, and at least 70
percent of the employees on site must earn an hourly wage of at least $14.96. | San Antonio Business Journal
