LEAGUE CITY – American National Insurance Co. is investing in a $15 million renovation of the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center aimed at making the League City hotel a top Texas destination for both business and leisure travelers.

Located at 2500 South Shore Blvd., the 238-room waterside hotel will get a fresh contemporary look that will carry through the guest rooms, restaurant, lobby and exteriors spaces.

New cabanas and water features will be added outside.

T.R. Engel Group, a Boston-based hospitality consultant, is managing the renovation project.

The hotel and 25,000-sf conference center will remain open during the renovation. The work will be done in stages, with completion planned in the second quarter 2016. The hotel was built in 1987 and last updated in 2008 and 2009.

The hotel is adjacent to the South Shore Harbour Marina on Clear Lake about 28 miles from downtown. The property has an 8,800-sf ballroom, 70-seat amphitheater training center and flexible spaces for events.

The hotel has more meeting space than most other hotels on the Houston’s southern side, according to the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Hotels near the water with more meeting space are in Galveston at Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa & Convention Center, with 103,000 sf, and The San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center, with 180,000 sf.

American National Insurance Co. has offices near the hotel in League City that house its life, health, corporate business segments and other operations.
