At its Dec. 15 meeting, the City Council gave a seal of approval to the Swedish company’s development plans for a store on a 30-acre plot along the eastern side of SH 161 and Mayfield Rd., north of I-20.
Construction, which is set to be complete in fall 2017, will include 1,150 parking spaces.
The new location will stock 10,000 items, 50 room settings and three model home interiors.
Like the Frisco store, Grand Prairie’s store will include a supervised children’s play area and 350-seat restaurant serving items like IKEA’s famous Swedish meatballs.
Construction of the store is expected to create 500 jobs. Around 300 workers will be employed in full-time and part-time positions at the store once it opens. | Dallas Business Journal
