SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – U.S. Rep. Filemon Vela announced a $3,490,360 award from the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The funds will be used for the Padre Boulevard Connectivity Program which calls for building new sidewalks, upgrading bike lanes and signs along all 5.5 miles of Padre Blvd.
“These grant funds are a direct investment into the South Padre Community, which will result in a more resident-friendly region and boost economic opportunity,” said U.S. Rep. Vela.
The grant money will also be used to make all Padre Boulevard intersections ADA compliant crossings.
