LAREDO – Under the newly signed five-year federal highway authorization bill, new money will be made available for more than $98 million worth of Webb County transportation projects.
"Thanks to the federal highway bill, Texas is estimated to receive more than $18 billion over the next five years," said Congressman Henry Cuellar. "That is $2 billion more than provided under current funding levels."
Local road projects will include work on I-35, US 59, US 83 and roads used by both Laredo and Webb County residents and travelers.
The bill was passed earlier this month by both the house and senate. The legislation was the first long-term highway authorization bill to be passed by Congress since MAP-21 in 2012.
