Victoria: Convent, Nazareth Academy for sale on Church St.
VICTORIA – As the nuns described living in close quarters on the third
floor, interested parties spoke about the possibilities that lay within the
walls that were built in 1904.
The building, which housed the Sisters of the Incarnate Word
and Blessed Sacrament as well as Nazareth Academy until 1963, is now for sale.
The building at 105 W. Church St. is on the National
Register of Historic Places.
The entire block, with the exception of St. Mary’s Church
next door to the old convent, is a part of the sale. The 44,000-sf building
sits on 1.75 acres. The asking price for the property is $2.5 million.
The first floor of the building has an open foyer and large
rooms that acted as public areas and classrooms when the building was used for
Nazareth Academy.
The second floor was used as student housing with small
dormitory rooms, a chapel and what was used as a principal’s office. Nuns lived
on the third floor, which consisted of small bedrooms.
The building is in need of updates such as
central heating and cooling and adding more restrooms.
