ROYSE CITY – Construction of the Royse City Walmart Supercenter has begun — at the northwest corner of I-30 and Erby Campbell — and local officials are confident that action will trigger a flurry of building activity by other retailers.
The store will house 155,165 sf of space, which would make it larger than the Quinlan Walmart, about the same size as the Greenville Walmart and smaller than the Rockwall Walmart store’s 203,000 sf.
The store will have about 120 employees and is expected to open October 2016.
Businesses expected to open in that area include a Subway restaurant inside Walmart, Sally Beauty Supply, Great Clips, a Primary Care Associates medical facility and a nail salon. 
CVS Pharmacy has also purchased 1.5 acres for a 11,945 sf store that is expected to open before the Walmart.
A new retail location for Whataburger was announced to be located at the front of the new Walmart Supercenter, with construction set to begin in January and an anticipated opening in summer 2016.
