SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio's Donut Hole has gotten its filling with the sale of a 70-acre commercially zoned site in the Luckey Ranch development.

The land is the final component for the 610-acre project, and the sale marks the end of The Kalikow Group's investment in the Far West San Antonio community.

The area known as the Donut Hole has room for 2,400 homes across 540 residentially zoned acres. And with all of those rooftops, commercial development is the next logical step.

The 70-acre property at Loop 1604 with frontage along Hwy. 90 has been sold to a Texas-based company.

Over the past three years, the Kalikow Group has sold all of the available residential land, much of which was bought by Houston-based home builder LGI Homes.

While Kalikow may have bought the land to capitalize on the growing demand for affordable, single-family housing, the master-planned community's proximity to upscale housing developments in Far West San Antonio — and the strengthening residential market there in general — has pushed average home prices up to $155,000 to $260,000.

And as the city has seen among its other growing submarkets, the combination of a growing population and rising home values puts retailers next in line.
