FORNEY – Developers have kicked off construction on the 1,850-home Gateway Parks project on the south side of US 80.

That 540-acre section is the biggest part of a 2,000-acre development that has been in the works for over a decade.

The entire community will contain everything from apartments and shopping centers to offices and single-family homes. It’s being built by an investment company owned by Dallas’ Hunt family.

Hunt’s investment group also contributed more than half of the funding to the new Gateway Blvd. bridge, which spans both US 80 and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. The bridge, as well as the extension of Gateway Blvd. south of US 80 toward I-20, will improve access to the area.

Gateway Parks homes will start between $200,000 and $300,000, which is the price range where there is the most demand for new construction.
