CLEAR LAKE – With Clear Lake undergoing its first residential development in decades, the Galveston Bay Area housing a slew of new developments, coupled with the region’s aging population, has created perfect timing for the Bay Area Regional Medical Center’s expansion.

The Bay Area Regional Medical Center’s expansion will cater directly to that single-family market.

Under the expansion, which kicked off this past summer, the hospital’s number of emergency department beds doubled from 11 to 23, and an additional CT scanner was added to deal with the "overload" of need.

Three new operating rooms will be functional in mid-December, and two more operating rooms will be added in fourth quarter 2016.

After the renovations, the hospital will have added roughly 140,000 sf, making it 373,000 sf with 200 in-patient beds.

One of the center’s most significant upgrades is its fifth-floor women’s center, which will wrap up around spring 2017. Among other things, the center will include a labor and delivery postpartum recovery area and a neonatal ICU.
