MISSION – The Houston-based commercial real estate company NewQuest Properties has announced the purchase of its first property in the Rio Grande Valley.

The retail buy is the Big Kmart located at 1405 E. Expressway 83 in Mission.
The 99,424-sf store was previously owned by the Los Angeles-based company Tishman International Cos.
The site — located at the northeast corner of Expressway 83/I-2 and South Bryan Rd. — is used by more than 2.2 million vehicles per year in cross-border travel.

"This Kmart is the first major retail site coming from Monterrey to McAllen," said Meredith McLeod-Cobb, NewQuest associate. "This is an unbelievable location with exceptional long-term potential."
Developed in 1992, the Kmart is located six miles north of the Anzalduas International Bridge, a four-lane, three-mile span connecting Mission to Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
