FORT WORTH - A U.S. Customs facility will be worked into renovation plans for Fort Worth Meacham Airport.
The city council approved spending an additional $500,000 to locate a customs office at Meacham. The office will be part of a $21.4 million administration building under construction at Meacham.
Meacham is in the process of becoming a Customs User Fee Airport, a move that would allow international private flights to clear customs 24 hours a day. The customs facility will serve all airport tenants and increase business opportunities at the city-owned airport.
Besides the customs facility, funds approved recently by the city council will allow modification of tenant space to achieve a more efficient layout and more finish-out of tenant space not previously scheduled to be finished.
Work is expected to be completed in late summer 2016.
