HOUSTON – Pittsburgh-based Dick’s Sporting Goods will open five stores in the Houston area next year as the company plans again to enter the market.

General Growth Properties Inc. announced that it had signed lease agreements for Dick’s locations in five shopping centers that it owns and operates in Houston.

Malls with leases for Dick’s stores include:
•    Baybrook Mall
•    Deerbrook Mall
•    First Colony Mall
•    The Woodlands Mall
•    Willowbrook Mall

In 2007, Dick’s first announced that it planned to enter Houston with a two-story, 83,000-sf store at I-10 and Bunker Hill. However, the chain called off the deal about a year later after an acquisition of another sporting goods chain cost the company more than anticipated.
