Stone Oak hospital expanding
SAN ANTONIO – Methodist Healthcare System plans to invest over $60 million to expand its hospital in Stone Oak to keep up with rising demand for service due to growth in the city.
Methodist’s Stone Oak expansion will include a three-story structure housing over 100,000 additional sf above an existing single-story building. About 20,000 sf of space on the existing floor will be renovated as well.
The expansion will give Methodist Stone Oak more than 70 additional beds, including three dozen surgical step-down beds. It will also gain more space for women’s services and for its neonatal intensive care unit. The project will also add a 15-bed acute rehabilitation facility and a three-level parking garage.
Methodist Stone Oak Hospital CEO Marc Strode said this will be the third expansion of the hospital since its opening in 2009. It likely won’t be the last expansion, which Strode said was designed to ultimately accommodate around 400 beds.
Construction on the project is expected to begin in first quarter 2016 and take around 18 months to complete.
