FRISCO - Frisco city planners have approved proposals for a large new residential community and a shopping center on part of the Brinkmann Ranch.

The 3,500-acre Brinkmann Ranch — located on the north side of Main St. between Preston Rd. and Independence Parkway — is one of the largest undeveloped areas in Frisco.

Designs just approved by Frisco's planning and zoning commission call for construction of about 500 houses and a shopping center at the northwest corner of Main and Independence.

The housing would wrap around the 31-acre retail center to be constructed on the 171-acre corner, according to plans filed with the City of Frisco.
