AUSTIN - Target will shutter 13 stores nationwide, including the SuperTarget at 12901 N. I-35 in North Austin.

The store will close by Jan. 30, the discount retailer said.

The store's 156 employees will be eligible to transfer to other locations, according to spokeswoman Kristy Welker.

The SuperTarget anchors the Shops at Tech Ridge shopping center, where other tenants include Toys R Us, Ross Dress for Less, PetSmart and Hobby Lobby.

The center was built in 2003, according to the Travis Central Appraisal District.

The stores that are closing were selected due to slumping sales, Welker said.

After the Tech Ridge store shuts down, Target will still have more than a dozen Central Texas locations scattered across Hays, Travis and Williamson counties.
