AUSTIN - A California-based genetics testing company is putting its imprint on Austin’s economic DNA.

Natera Inc. will open its first offices outside Northern California next year and bring as many as 400 jobs to the area in the next several years.

The San Carlos, California-based company has leased about 93,000 sf at Parmer 3.2, a newly constructed 192,000-sf building at 13011 McCallen Pass in Northeast Austin.

Natera’s product line includes several reproductive tests, including prenatal screening for genetic abnormalities.

The first 40 to 50 people for Natera’s Austin operations will be hired in the next 60 days.

The company currently is in the design process for its laboratory and office space.

Austin-based GSC Architects has the assignment.

A general contractor has yet to be selected, but an official said the target date for opening is July 2016.

Parmer 3.2 is the newest building at Parmer, a 300-acre mixed-use development near I-35 and Parmer Lane.
