HOUSTON - Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc. has started its one-hour delivery service to select users in Houston and surrounding ZIP codes starting Oct. 15.

The company’s Prime Now Service allows Amazon Prime members to request one-hour delivery for "daily essentials" for $7.99, and two-hour delivery of the same products for free.

The service now operates in 15 cities including Dallas and Austin.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is expanding its curbside grocery pickup service to Houston locations also on Oct. 15.
The Wal-Mart and Amazon concepts will compete with other on-demand grocery services that have recently launched in Houston, such as Instacart.
