Victoria: DeTar Hospital rushes 15,000 SF to new emergency room
VICTORIA – Crossroads residents should expect a new, modern
emergency room to make its debut at DeTar Hospital Navarro as early as next
summer.
Adding almost 15,000 sf of patient care area at a cost of
about $10 million, the new emergency department will feature a total of 23
private exam rooms, including two trauma suites, two cardiac suites, two triage
rooms and one isolation room.
Also, 75 parking spaces will be added in an effort to
provide better access to the emergency department.
Lisa Price, director of emergency and trauma services, said
the hospital has already begun the process of hiring new nurses to prepare for
the expansion.
Since 2010, DeTar emergency room volume has increased 36
percent.
The new construction will replace the existing 11-bed
emergency department and expand the hospital’s footprint across Guadalupe St.
In collaboration with Texas A&M Health Science Center,
the Juan Linn building will also undergo renovations to accommodate 18 exam
rooms for the DeTar Healthcare System Family Medicine Residency Program.
The first resident is set to start July 2016, which is the
scheduled completion date for the new emergency department.
During the construction process, the emergency
department will remain open to patients.
