ABILENE - The site of the former 21/21 Apartments — which was burned down in 2003 — is going to be Prairie Gardens apartment complex, providing low-income senior housing.

Three building permits — totaling $4.3 million — have been issued for the address at 2109 N. 6th St.

According to building permits, the main building will be two stories and will have 40 apartments, office, maintenance area, fitness room, theater, library and community room. Two smaller one-story buildings will each house four units.

In February 2014, the Abilene City Council adopted a resolution supporting the 48-unit complex for housing tax credits, and later the council rezoned the property to allow the development.
