First Data closes; 300 jobs gone
CORPUS CHRISTI – The international payment processing company First Data is shuttering its Corpus Christi facility in the coming months, laying off about 300 workers in the process.
The full closure will be complete in November, and none of the jobs will stay in the local area. Instead, they will be transferred to other First Data operations around the country.
The company has 23,000 owner-associates in 34 countries, and provides services to more than 6 million merchants and financial institutions around the world.
The shutdown comes almost five years after the facility cut 200 jobs in 2010 when a client declined to renew a contract with the company.
The inbound call center opened on Opportunity Dr. in 1995.
