MIDLAND – All might have been quiet on the frontier of Hotel Santa Rita the past few months, but the project is still a go.

The city will finish demolishing the old county courthouse, which is the site of the hotel, by the end of September and clear the plot by the end of December.

The property will be handed to developers on February 1, 2016, and structural foundation work will begin on February 2.

The only major change to the design of the building so far is the idea to add retail space.

Besides hotel rooms, the building will feature a public food market, restaurants, bars, a 400-seat ballroom, office space and four levels of parking.

The hotel will create an estimated 300 full-time jobs, as well as a small percentage of part-time jobs for weekend dining events.

The project is expected to take about two years once construction begins in February 2016.
