SAN ANGELO - Gary Hodges is emerging from a yearlong retirement to open a new animal hospital at 2012 W. Farm-to-Market Rd. 2105 on the north edge of town.

Western Veterinary Hospital, a large and small animal clinic, is slated to open at the beginning of October.

The 45,000-sf multipurpose facility will provide veterinary care to large and small animals, boarding for cats and dogs, as well as pet grooming.

It also will offer specialized medical equipment for equine patients, including an O-scan MRI and dynamic endoscope, the latter of which includes a recording device and live feed to aid in evaluation of a horse's upper airways.

A five-bedroom, five-bathroom home, on the property at purchase, will house veterinary medicine students, interns and externs while they study.

"It gives them an opportunity to have a place to live and experience different veterinary hospitals all over the United States," Hodges said.
