AUSTIN - Tom Terkel and his daughter Taylor Terkel Steed plan to build 53 upscale townhouses behind the Broken Spoke music venue on South Lamar Blvd. — a major thoroughfare that has seen hundreds of new apartments added in recent years.

By the end of the year, ground will be broken on The Laan — the Dutch word for lane.

The townhomes are slated for three acres at 3100 Manchaca Rd.

“The name was inspired by both the Dutch Farmhouse style of architecture of our community and by the lane that bisects the community,” Terkel said.

The townhomes are expected to range in price from about $495,000 to $630,000, in the first of three planned phases.

Units will range from about 1,600 sf up to 1,950 sf.
