SELMA – A Mexican gummy-candy manufacturer has broken ground on a 25,000-sf plant at the Olympia Business Park near San Antonio.

And gummy bear manufacturing is expected to be up and running by 2016.

VIRC LLC is building a multimillion-dollar, medical-grade manufacturing plant following its purchase of five of the 17 acres in the business park at 9411 Corporate Dr.

Construction cost is estimated at $3 million.

Biltmore Construction’s Jim Moore — the business park’s original developer and the developer for the new facility — said that the company really only needed one or two acres, but because the site had everything on its checklist, it decided to snap it up.
