Portions of the Grand Texas theme park in New Caney along SH 242 were originally scheduled to open in mid-2015, but plans have been delayed due to design limitations with a previous engineering firm.

Grand Texas officials hired Conroe-based engineering group Bleyl & Associates after parting ways with the park’s previous firm.

The theme park’s construction is contingent on the addition of a new Entergy electricity substation near Splendora, which is expected to break ground next month and be completed in 2017. The update revealed that existing power grids were unable to accommodate the electricity needed to power the planned park rides.

More than 10,000 new part-time and full-time jobs will be created through Grand Texas.

All sections of the park are expected to open and be operating in their initial phases by late 2018 through mid-2019.
