There's something fishy about a new addition to Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine's mobile app. For you anglers, that's a good thing.

The magazine's app now has a Texas Fishing Guide. The app itself is free, although it'll cost you to access locked magazine content. The fishing guide, however, is accessible free of charge.

It's actually just a freshwater fishing guide, but when you consider that Texas has more than 5,600 square miles of inland water (ranking it first in the 48 contiguous states, according to the Texas State Historical Association)—well, that's more water than you can shake your rod and reel at.

The guide is nifty. Once you download the app, open it, click on "Texas Fishing Guide," then select a species of fish—black bass, for example. Then select the specific fish in that species for more info—say, largemouth bass.

From there, you'll find links to general information about that fish, where to find them, and the best bait for catching them.

The app also has links to many Texas lakes and freshwater fishing areas, including contact information, directions, and fees.

You can download Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine's app from the Apple App Store and Google Play. And if you know of a better Texas fishing app, I hope you'll let minnow.
