The Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University is 45 years old today. On May 18, 1971, Gov. Preston Smith signed legislation creating the Texas Real Estate Research Center and placing it in the College of Agriculture at Texas A&M University.​​

Flanking the governor at the signing were, from left, Ervin W. Luedtke of Austin, TAR executive vice-president; Julio Laguarta of Houston, chair of the TAR legislative committee; Robert Hale of Austin, TAR director of governmental affairs; Rep. Delwin Jones of Lubbock, House sponsor of the TREC legislation; TAR President Lawrence 'Bud' Miller Jr. of Dallas; Dean of Agriculture H.O. Kunkel; Sen. Bill Moore of Bryan; Senate sponsor of the TRERC legislation; Center Director A.B. Wooten; and Cecil Culpepper, representing the Bryan-College Station Board of Realtors.
